Donnell Mai

Originally from Baltimore Maryland, Donnell Mai moved to Santa Barbara, California, where she achieved an Associate Arts degree.

She moved to Southern California and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University at Fullerton with an emphasis in printmaking.

She owns and operates Mai Art Images, building props and painting backdrops for L.A. television studios and theatrical productions. Donnell also has worked as an architectural watercolorist for large Architectural firms. Donnell has initiated and administered art programs at Victoria Elementary in Costa Mesa and at Newport Elementary in Newport Beach, California.
Donnell regularly exhibits in many Southern California Galleries and art shows. She has been the recipient of many awards, including the following:
* Honorable Mention Professional Watercolor in 2006, Orange County Fair
* People's Choice Professional Division in 1999, Orange County Fair
* Honorable Mention in 1995, O.C. Fine Arts League
* Honorable Mention in 1993, O.C. Fair
* First Place Watercolors in 1986, O.C. Fair
* Juror's Choice Award in 1986, O.C. Fair
* Top Work in 1986, O.C. Fair
Her work is in private collections throughout the United States. Donnell believes her choice of media is because of "The challenge watercolors provide, as well as its fluid contradictions". The paintings are all places, people and animals that Donnell finds interesting and familiar.
