Larimar
Larimar is one of the newest and rarest gemstones
to
have been discovered and cataloged. It was formed
millions of years ago by volcanic activity and now
occurs in just one square kilometer of a remote
mountain range in the Dominican Republic. Due to its
limited locality this natural and untreated stone is
twenty times rarer than Tanzanite, making it one of
the rarest gemstones in the world. The extraordinary
color of the stonecomes from the unique composition of
the minerals including copper, vanadium and magnesium,
which is amply found on this island in the Caribbean.
